Claire is forced to have dinner with Joe. Now she is being held captive in some type of underground bunker by a former U. She goes to check on young Joey and obviously she is ditching her two lovers or whatever they are to sneak out of the compound. Warren meets Claire and informs her of Caroll's instruction in order for her to see Joey. Agent Parker's past as a member of a cult is revealed.
Then Carroll sees Joey as an older child for the first time. Advertisement To try and gain some ground with Hardy, Emma brings out the poor mini-mart girl who has been held captive for several weeks. She then questions why the hell Hardy is not tied up when she angrily Tasers him in his chest to disrupt his pacemaker. So I have a sneaking suspicion that Agent Parker is somehow involved in this whole plot by Joe Carroll. He wakes up in the lighthouse, and his confrontation with Carroll comes to blows. With so many flashbacks you would think that there might be some story about how Joe Carroll and his acolytes are able to afford to mount such a massive operation. Mike is held hostage by Joe while Debra is held by Jacob.
Tensions begin to rise between the three as Paul, having pretended to be Jacob's lover for years, is now jealous of the intimate relationship between Jacob and Emma. Special Agent Parker deputizes Hardy. Claire goes with Charlie to his hideaway to wait for Joey. They tase her and force Ryan to make a call to the Feds outside on speaker and they let Hardy dictate the call giving them as much intel as he can. Joe's prison guard protégé Jordy makes his first kill, slaughtering three college girls in their sorority house.
Hardy arrives at Jenny's restaurant, and blindfolds himself under Maggie's instruction. I give credit where credit is due and I was definitely happy to see star Kevin Bacon finally getting some airtime on his own show. Hardy relays his suspicions to Parker, who has the transport van pull over. Joe questions what motivated Ryan into saving people and discovers it was because of his father's death. Jacob expresses a desire to leave his cult life behind, but Emma kills him before he can do so. They quickly identify the prison warden as the likely culprit, learning that his daughter has disappeared without explanation. Carroll was assisted in his escape by Olivia Warren, whom he forces to call Hardy.
The place is literally surrounded and she is not able to teleport as far as I know. Kester arrives, ready to flee with Maggie. He leaves the house and picks up a convenience store worker, Megan Li Jun Li , later knocking her out to kidnap and hold her hostage at the house. Joe eventually lets Claire reunite with her son. His wife, Maggie Virginia Kull is found by Hardy and his team and brought in for questioning.
When confronted, the warden admits Carroll's people coerced him, but he has no knowledge of where Carroll is. She resists and runs out with some sort of symbol around her neck; obviously it is some type of cult tote. But when Jacob's house guest, Megan, is used to a negotiating tactic, Emma escapes with Joey, leaving Jacob and Paul to take on Hardy alone. After six episodes, The Following has still proven itself to be the many fans had hoped it would it be by throwing Bacon into an episode where his character, Hardy, is able to share scenes with his main antagonists, allowing for some of the most suspenseful and most playful scenes of the series so far. As Hardy and Parker become frustrated with having to play office politics whilst conducting a manhunt, Carroll's plans escalate even further as he puts its next stage into action. She asks to see her son but Joe refuses, which causes Claire to storm off.
The compound is completely surrounded by all of the big three-letter agencies with Agent Parker my favorite character in this mess showing up at the scene to coordinate with Agent Weston. Emma locks Joey in the bedroom, and finds a man sent by Charlie, Hank Flynn , who is to move them out of the house. Hardy soon discovers that the charismatic Carroll has surrounded himself with a group of like-minded individuals whom he met while teaching and while in prison , and turned them into a of fanatical killers. For all of their cult bravado, they are falling apart as Hardy starts screwing with their minds. But like any good series, The Following has decided to throw another twist in to the series logic with the introduction of one of Claire's followers. That is, until it's time for their story to end. Tyson reveals to Claire that after Ryan and her ended their relationship, he introduced Ryan to a friend named Molly, though they did not last very long as Ryan was only serious about Claire.
Claire arrives at the location instructed by Warren and follows Charlie. Emma, Paul and Jacob continue to keep Joey at the house, but Paul confronts Emma about her relationship with Jacob, and she cuts his arm. In a brief conversation with Emma about Jacob, Paul reveals to her that Jacob has been lying to them, and has never actually killed. Ryan notices that Claire has been tracked by Roderick as they prepare for his arrival. Generally, it gives viewers a somewhat good feeling in knowing that there are somewhat helpful - though admittedly creepy - followers out there. The police secure both Claire Matthews , Joe's ex-wife and mother of his son Joey with whom Ryan had an affair, and Sarah Fuller , the only one of Joe's victims to survive.
With the team split up, Ryan seeks assistance from a previous enemy. Roderick is caught by Ryan and says he'll give up Joey if he gets his freedom. Meanwhile, Charlie holds Claire at a remote warehouse, where he mentions that Joe wants her to survive and reveals an attraction for her after years of surveilling her. While Claire tries to escape with Joey, they are blocked by various followers and Roderick puts an ankle monitor on her. Charlie was in the military, was Claire's follower, and has a crush on her. Joe later talks with Molly and has data on Ryan given to him.
