The final four and a half minutes of the song slow to a suffocating crawl, as you feel your breath slipping away until finally, we have transitioned through to breach the land of the dead. The vocals accompany almost every riff in this one, again employing both clean and aggressive variants, and they all sound phenomenal as always. Topped off with a fantastic cover art, the music within sounds as if it has come from a band with experience. Over the course of an hour, the band chart an ever-shifting course through crushing riffs, head-scratching math metal, serene post-rock and immense soundscapes. These two behemoths push the ten minute mark, with the former embracing droned-out cosmic sounds, while the latter culminates in an almost-anthemic, melodic climax. It is an exciting debut from a band with a lot of promise. Dool, Here Now There Then 5.
Radiant Knife plays the sort of sludge-infused progressive metal popularized by fellow southerners Mastodon, but play the style very much in their own way. The title track seems them ease up a little on the intensity to allow a little psychedelic rock to bubble to the surface. It crushes your soul, and that's all we can really ask for. There are a lot of psychedelic sounding clean guitar passages, as well as the welcome addition of sitar on occasion. They stay largely in their preferred lane, and take a more subtle and nuanced approach to evolving their lone, 19 minute track. Produced only in a quantity of 250 due to the sheer amount of carnage this record will cause, hell's gates have been struck open to allow a select amount of these colored discs of cottonmouth death to present themselves on our shelves. Thus, like Sunless before it, Earthen emerges to bring significant character to familiar elements, drifting at times and explosive at others, but always under complete control, never wandering without a reason, and basking in low end that has to be heard to be believed. That record caught me almost completely off-guard. Kick out the Jams arrives with a fittingly quick turnaround and brings forth seven new pieces in its digital form, topping 93 minutes in its total space-bound push. The Sludgelord will listen to several dozen bands throughout the year but only some will be of his liking.
The band is a tightly honed three piece unit of power and complexity which is currently on tour in promotion of this new album, and I highly recommend you witness their live show any time you are able. Notes Will try and likely fail to keep this brief, but the thing I find most striking about this list is the variety of it. But even in their quieter moments they can't stop themselves from being heavy as hell as the riffs and cymbals come crashing down once again. We're not kids anymore, yeah we can still party with the best of them, but we always write truthfully and from the heart - so the themes throughout this album are a lot more mature as a result. It crushes your soul, and that's all we can really ask for. Though the riffs are heavy and their love for weed is pretty obvious doesn't the band name give it away? The drumming gets slightly busier at certain points, and there is some effective use of droning noise in the background for the sake of adding extra tension, but otherwise things continue on at a slow, steady pace.
I see that two of the members are credited as doing vocals, so I believe we are looking at two different lead vocalists. . One can only look forward to hearing where their adventures take them and, indeed, where they take their audience. Stylistically and geographically these bands come from different places, and as with Brume and Moon Rats, even when a base of influence is similar, the interpretation thereof can vary widely and often does. With no prior demo releases, they have self-produced and released this first album, 'Let it Burn'. The songs begins to dissipate, as layers are stripped away until the last bit of noise is snuffed out, like someone blowing out a candle.

The riffs are thick with fuzz and move like a freight train, with thunderous bass lines which never get too buried beneath the loudness of the guitar. Vinnum Sabbathi, Gravity Works 8. The tune is primarily instrumental, but as that thundering opening riff returns toward the end of the song after an introverted and sullen sounding period in the middle, this time they choose to scorch over the top of it with aggressive, shouted vocals, giving it a completely different, more venomous feel the second time around.
Every year, someone new is inspired to pick up a guitar, bass, drums, mic, keyboard, theremin, cello — whatever it might be — and set themselves to the task of manifesting the sounds they hear in their head. Accompanied by pensive strings, the song shifts its character, but remains tied to the music that leads up to it through its glacially slow tempo. The greatest strength of the lengthy track is the presence of numerous organically executed changes of pace, mood and dynamics.
